Last week, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced the Commonwealth’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) awards. Nearly $445 million grant awards were made to support 356 projects across Pennsylvania.  RACP, administered by the Governor’s Office of the Budget, is a reimbursement grant program that supports essential design, acquisition, and construction projects across the Commonwealth. The program funds projects with regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, promoting economic growth, creating jobs, increasing tax revenue, and contributing to vibrant, resilient communities. 

Several townships received these grants, generally for major projects like new municipal complexes:  

• South Heidelberg, Berks County Municipal Complex: $1 million to upgrade the South Heidelberg Township Municipal Complex with expanded police facilities, public access improvements, and building renovations. 

• Bensalem Township, Bucks County Energy Efficiency: $1 million to support roof replacement and solar energy system upgrades at a municipal administration building. 

• Falls Township, Bucks County Fire Company: $500,000 to support major renovation and modernization of a fire company facility, including structural and systems upgrades. 

• Schuylkill Township, Chester County Municipal Complex: $800,000 to support additions and renovations, expanding police, administrative, and public meeting facilities. 

• Mount Joy Township, Lancaster County, Municipal Complex: $1.043 million to upgrade the Mount Joy Township Municipal Complex with improved public works and police facilities, including expanded access roads, parking, security features, and stormwater improvements. 

• Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County Building: $500,000 to rehabilitate the former Saint Alphonsus Retreat House in Coolbaugh Township, completing structural, roofing, and exterior envelope repairs to preserve and stabilize the historic facility. 

Several additional awards will directly benefit a township: 

• Exeter Township, Berks County Volunteer Fire Department: $1.5 million to construct a new Exeter Township Emergency Services Building with fire station, emergency response facilities, and support space. 

• Chester County: $1.95 million to construct a new 24/7 East Vincent Township EMS Station, improving emergency response capacity and providing a modern, fully ADA-compliant facility to support regional ambulance and 911 services. 

• McClure Company Expansion: $4 million to support McClure Company’s expansion in Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County, creating capacity for workforce growth and strengthening Pennsylvania’s energy and infrastructure sectors. 

• DeAngelo Youth Sports Complex, Luzerne County: $3 million to construct an indoor youth sports complex in Plains Township, creating a regional facility with multi-sport courts and community gathering space.
