The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is accepting applications from volunteer fire companies in rural communities with fewer than 10,000 residents to help fight wildfires. In 2025, DCNR awarded $905,846 to 114 volunteer fire companies in communities where forest and brush fires are common. Applications must be submitted electronically through DCNR’s grant website by 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 7, 2027. The maximum grant award in 2027 is $15,000 per fire company, with funding provided on a 50/50 cost-share basis. Funding can be used for training and equipment purchases directly related to fighting brush and forest fires.
