Townships Receive DCNR Recreation and Conservation Grants 

Gov. Josh Shapiro and state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn announced $81 million in new Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) grants that will support 306 recreation and conservation projects across 60 counties and help communities improve parks and playgrounds, build and repair trails, conserve open space, restore rivers and watersheds, and grow local economies through outdoor recreation.  

Dozens of townships across the state are recipients of these grants, and many more will benefit from nonprofit investments in their communities. Here are a few examples:

  • Logan Township, Blair County, will receive $600,000 for further development of Strawberry Hills Park. Work includes construction of a concession stand and pedestrian walkways; ADA access, landscaping, project signage, and other related site improvements. 
  • Franklin Township, Chester County, will receive $250,000 for restoration of an unnamed tributary to the West Branch of the White Clay Creek within Franklin. Work includes stream restoration and streambank stabilization; landscaping; and project signs and other related site improvements.
  • Paint Township, Clarion County, will receive $180,000 towards the acquisition of approximately 1.95 acres for open space, passive recreation, and access to the Clarion River.
  • Summit Township, Erie County, will receive $213,100 to rehabilitate and further develop Summit Community Park. Work will include renovation of sport courts; construction of internal loop trail, boardwalk, pavilions, pickleball courts, and parking area; ADA access; landscaping; project signage; and other related site improvements.
  • Stroud Township, Monroe County, will receive $156,500 to rehabilitate and develop Albertson Park. Work will include construction of a pedestrian walkway and parking area; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access; landscaping; project signage; and other related site improvements.
