Turnpike Approves 2027 Toll Hike
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission approved a toll increase for January 2027 of 3.5%. Those with E-Z Pass will see rates increase from 7.3 to 7.5 cents per mile, plus $1.13 to $1.17 for every overhead gantry a driver passes. Those who don’t have E-ZPass and use toll by plate will see rates increase from 14.6 to 15 cents per mile, plus a toll per gantry increase from $2.26 to $2.34. The increases are being used to pay off $16 billion in debt due to a transportation funding plan that saddled the Turnpike with $450 million in annual payments to PennDOT. Interstate 80 was to be tolled under the plan, but the plan was rejected by federal officials. This is the smallest increase in a decade.
