Crash Responder Safety Week: Remember to Slow Down and Move Over
Today wraps up Crash Responder Safety Week, a week to highlight the importance to all roadway users of the common goal and responsibility for road safety during traffic incidents. Traffic incident response is a collaborative effort engaging EMS, law enforcement, fire and rescue, public works, towing and recovery, transportation, and other disciplines.
The Federal Highway Administration assembled a toolkit, including sample proclamations and social media graphics for townships and safety partners to spread the word about Slow Down, Move Over laws. Pennsylvania’s law requires drivers approaching an emergency response area to slow down and, if possible, safely merge into a lane farther away from the response area to ensure the safety of emergency responders and other traffic incident management personnel.
