Salary Survey Spotlight – PTO Trends Over Time
The labor market has changed a lot over the years, and expectations from employers and employees have changed with it. For example, about 70% of townships participating in the Salary Survey in 2018 reported that paid time off did not vary based on the years of service of the employee. Year after year, the survey has shown this trend shifting, with the most recent data collected in 2026 indicating that the majority of participating townships now base paid time off accrual on years of service.
Paid leave trends are just one of the many datasets on salaries and benefits that participating townships can access in the PSATS Salary Survey. The results are a real-time compilation of the latest entries, creating a comprehensive report on salaries and job trends in local government. To add data so that you can access full results, sign into psats.org and look for the Salary Survey option under the Programs & Services tab. If you would like to be added as a viewer (to view results after your township representative completes the survey) or processor (township official designated to enter data and view results) for your township, email memberservices@psats.org.
