PSATS Files Concerns with ADA Website Mandate

PSATS filed comments noting township concerns with a federal rule mandating compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards for maintaining websites. While the deadlines for compliance have been extended for townships with a population of 50,000 or more to April 26, 2027, and for those with a population of less than 50,000 until April 26, 2028, the rules do not address the feasibility and costs of compliance for local governments.

PSATS raised concerns that the rule would force local governments to choose between transparency and compliance due to cost, and that available tools cannot guarantee 100% compliance. While intended to provide transparency and accessibility, PSATS is concerned that it will force townships to remove content from their websites to simplify compliance and manage costs. PSATS remains concerned with civil liability risks for failure to fully comply, which may not be an achievable goal. Click here to view the comments.
