Congress Sends Housing Affordability Legislation to President Trump
Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a compromise version of a housing affordability package, which will now go to President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign the bill today. The Senate passed the bill on Monday. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is a bipartisan omnibus bill that combines parts of the Housing for the 21st Century Act passed by the House last year with the Senate’s housing affordable proposal. The hybrid bill would reduce and streamline federal regulations for new residential housing, require that the Department of Housing and Urban Development offer guidance on local land use reforms for housing, make it easier to build manufactured housing, and limit large institutional investors. PSATS is reviewing the final legislation, which appears to preserve local land use control. Click here for a Senate summary of the major provisions.
