Townships Receive Federal Transportation Grants

Townships Receive Federal Transportation Grants

The state Department of Transportation announced federal investments of more than $74 million in 72 projects in 38 counties to improve community resources and public accessibility around the Commonwealth. The projects are funded as part of the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) of the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Surface Block Grant Program.

Eighteen townships across the state saw their projects funded in this grant round and more will see their community be the beneficiary of one of these grants. In this round of funding, the Administration is investing in projects to construct pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improve access to public transportation, create safe routes to schools, create trail projects that serve a transportation purpose, or enhance safety for vulnerable travelers. Township projects include:

  • Brady’s Bend Township, Armstrong County will receive $1.2 million to widen Seybertown Roads to include paved shoulder bikeways.
  • Patton Township, Centre County, will receive $1.5 million for multi-faceted project accessibility improvements on Vairo Blvd.
  • Tredyffrin Township, Chester County will receive $1.33 million to install sidewalk along Valley Forge Road and Swedesford Road and provide connections to Valley Forge Middle School, Gateway Shopping Center, and the Chester Valley Trail via Valley Road as part of the Gateway Multimodal Connections project.

“Whether it’s a walk to school or a ride to the office, how you get there is the most critical part of any trip,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “Thanks to this investment, communities around the Commonwealth are creating and improving options for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users.” To learn more about this program and view all of the successful projects, click here
