Pennsylvania Preserves Farms in Townships Across the Commonwealth
Pennsylvania is investing nearly $10 million to purchase development rights for 2,672 acres on 35 farms in 30 townships in 18 counties, protecting them from future development. The program ensures that Pennsylvania farmers will have access to prime quality land in the future. Many of the farms preserved include a county investment and Manor Township, Lancaster County and Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County also contributed funding to help preserve the farms within their borders.
Since the creation of Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program in 1988, Pennsylvania has protected 654,551 acres on 6,564 farms in 58 counties with an investment of nearly $1.76 billion. This program is a partnership with local governments and nonprofits. Click here to see the press release, which includes a list of the farms preserved and the township in which they are located.
