The Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office (PA SHPO) recently announced its new Preservation Ordinance Guidebook and Workbook, intended as a replacement for its previous model historic preservation ordinance. This new guidebook intends to address how Pennsylvania’s municipalities can protect historic places in their communities, as well as answering the “whats and whys” to help communities develop implementable preservation ordinances to meet community needs.

The workbook includes several phases of developing an historic preservation ordinance, including different ordinance types, things to consider including in a preservation ordinance, and other tools for historic preservation. Click here to read PA SHPO’s blog post for more information.
