IRS Increased Mileage Allowance for Second Half of 2026
Due to volatile fuel prices (diesel, gas, electricity), the Internal Revenue Service recently announced that the allowable mileage rate for business use of a personal vehicle will increase from 72.5 cents per mile to 76 cents per mile. The new mileage rate eligibility took effect July 1, 2026, and will remain effective until December 31, 2026. The board of supervisors may choose to adjust its mileage rate up to the revised IRS rate for the second half of the year if they did not simply say “IRS approved rate” rather than a number.
