The PROTECT program provides grants for projects that strengthen roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure against severe weather and natural disasters. Funding supports planning efforts, resilience improvements, evacuation routes, community resilience, and vulnerable coastal infrastructure.

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging unveiled a new tool for older adult protective services that will improve performance at more than 50 local aging agencies across Pennsylvania.

The Aging Department replaced an old, subjective, pass/fail system that was ineffective in monitoring older adult protective services with a new, more objective and robust system that provides local aging agencies with valuable, step-by-step guidance about how to improve services and better protect older adults.

That new system – the Comprehensive Aging Performance Evaluation (CAPE) -will also bring higher levels of transparency and accountability, enabling local elected officials and community members to review the performance of their local aging services agency online.

Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor released the first audit of the Department of Health’s Medical Marijuana Program since its 2016 launch, covering calendar year 2024.

The report revealed two main issues: a lack of internal controls leading to inconsistent inspections and enforcement, and inadequate approval processes for complaints and corrective plans. Auditors provided nine recommendations, including standardizing inspection checklists and formalizing documentation and operating procedures. The Department of Health agreed with the findings and has already begun implementing the recommended changes.
