Earlier this week, Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced the launch of Treasury’s new unclaimed property website: searchandclaimpa.gov. Upgrades to the system include: 

• Automatic matching of associated properties for the same claimant; 

• Automatically returning $500 or less; 

• More detailed values when reviewing search results; 

• Easily share property listings to notify others of their unclaimed property; and 

• Increased fraud protection. 

Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, and can also include physical assets, such as savings bonds. Treasury recently returned $186,600 to Limerick Township, including funds from a checking account dating back to 2021. Over the past five years, over $20 million has been returned to 117 local government agencies, including counties and municipalities, through the unclaimed property process.
