Yesterday, Governor Josh Shapiro and PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll announced the first funding round of $250 million to 79 Rapid Deployment Projects (RDP) across the state. Over the next 18 months, a total of $775 million from the Motor License Fund will be used for these RDPs to repair state-owned roads, using techniques focusing on speed (for example, paving instead of patching) to complete work in a more time-efficient manner. 

While this work will address over 400 miles of roadwork in 44 counties, the announcement notably did not include any funding for local roads, despite local governments owning double the amount of road miles compared to the state. Click here to view a map showing the locations of RDPs and the total allocations per PennDOT District.
