County Ordered to Perform Tax Reassessment
Allegheny County judge recently ruled that Allegheny County must reevaluate its tax rates for properties. The county’s last full countywide reassessment took place in 2012. Since then, Allegheny County has continued to use those 2012 market values as the basis for property assessments. Once the reassessment is complete, municipalities and school districts in the county will be required to adjust their respective tax rates to be revenue-neutral on total amount collected. Pennsylvania is one of the only states that does not pre-empt county decision-making and mandate regular reassessments statewide.
