Townships Receive Multimodal Transportation Grant Awards 

Gov. Josh Shapiro announced yesterday that 50 transportation projects in 27 counties across Pennsylvania have been selected for $54 million in funding through the PennDOT Multimodal Transportation Fund. This program is intended to provide financial assistance to improve transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transit revitalization. 

Townships received more than half of the awards and will benefit from several more. PennDOT evaluated the applications and made selections based on safety benefits, regional economic conditions, technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency, and operational sustainability. Here are some of the winning projects:  

  • Muddy Creek Township, Butler County: $468,928 to repair and resurface Hufnagel Road. 
  • Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County: $972,245 for safety improvements to Prince Street and Houcks Road. 
  • Menno Township, Mifflin County: $372,184 to install medians and crosswalks on Route 655 in Allensville. 
  • Franconia Township, Montgomery County: $223,823 for pedestrian enhancements at Branchwood Park, Franconia Community Park, and the Lions Gate Community, as well as the upgrade of all school zone signs in the township. 
  • Brothersvalley Township, Somerset County: $1.6 million to replace the bridge carrying Fogeltown Road over Tubs Run. 

PennDOT will begin accepting applications for the next round of MTF grants on September 14, 2026, and applications are due by 4 p.m. on October 30, 2026Click here to learn more about the program and here for the press release
