Local Roads and Bridges Left Out of Governor’s Massive Mass Transit Funding Bill
In a recent op-ed and letter to members of the state House and Senate, PSATS Executive Director David Sanko highlighted the glaring omission of local roads and bridges in the current transportation bill, which just passed the House.
“The numbers speak for themselves: Of the commonwealth’s 120,000 miles of public roads, local municipalities maintain more than 77,000, most of them by townships. These roads are the lifelines of our communities, supporting emergency services, connecting families, and powering key sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and tourism,” Sanko said.
PSATS believes that any transportation funding discussion must take the entire system into consideration, as mass transit also requires well-maintained local roads and safe bridges to be successful.
“Ensuring stable, predictable funding for all parts of the transportation network is essential to maintaining access to education, health care, employment, recreation, and economic opportunity for all Pennsylvanians,” Sanko said. Click here to read the letter in full.
