COSTARS Salt Contract Delayed

The state Department of General Services has confirmed that there is a delay in issuing the 2021-2022 Road Salt contract. A new contract is expected to be available by the end of September.

Participating townships should not order salt for the 2021-2022 season (Aug. 1, 2021 – July 31, 2022) until you receive notification from DGS that the new contract is available, which will identify the supplier for your county and the price per ton for the new season.

Please note: if your township did not meet the 2020-2021 Road Salt contract 60% minimum order requirement, you should order the required amount from the current (2020-2021) supplier to avoid storage fees. The 2020-2021 Road Salt contract has been extended to Oct. 31, 2021, to allow participants to satisfy their 60% minimum requirement; however, per the contract, suppliers may begin assessing storage fees effective Aug. 1, 2021. If your township met its minimum requirement, do not place any new orders under the 2020-2021 contract.
