PA Courts Infographic: Traffic Citations in School Zones

As schools are getting back into session, it’s a great time to highlight transportation safety. Over the past five years, 22,502 Pennsylvania drivers have been cited for school zone violations, according to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts. These violations include speeding in a school zone and overtaking or illegally passing a school bus, and the highest percentage of these incidents occurs in September.
Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm activated. Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and all children have reached safety. For more information on school zones and what your township can do to promote safety on your roads, contact the Local Technical Assistance Program at 1-800-FOR-LTAP.
When elected or appointed, township officials automatically become PSATS members through their township's membership. If you're an elected or appointed township official in Pennsylvania and are unsure about your entity’s membership status with PSATS, your board secretary or manager can provide the necessary details.
PSATS offers its members exclusive access to training, resources, and events via the member portal at PSATS.org. If you have any questions about PSATS.org or your membership that aren't covered on our FAQ page, please submit a message, and we'll be happy to follow up with you.
