Two Newspapers to Close Their Doors in 2026
It is only 8 days into 2026 and already two newspapers have announced that they will shut down operations, making public notice requirements even more difficult for affected townships and emphasizing the need for more flexible public notice options, including township websites.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will close its doors after 240 years in operation on May 3. The Gazette previously reduced print publications to twice a week. The Clinton County Record, formerly the Renovo Record, published its final edition on December 31, 2025 after 154 years of publication. Other papers are reporting staff layoffs and more are switching to U.S. mail delivery.
