Tunkhannock Township Recovers Over $8,000 in Unclaimed Property

The Pennsylvania Treasury recently returned more than $8,000 in unclaimed property to Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County, marking another success in Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s initiative to reunite public entities with lost or forgotten funds.

The $8,360 returned to Tunkhannock Township was reported as an insurance premium refund from 2019 and was placed in the township’s general fund. Treasurer Garrity emphasized the importance of these recoveries: “It’s always a win-win when unclaimed property goes back to the rightful owners — the township and its residents will both benefit by having these additional dollars.”

Township officials are encouraged to search for unclaimed property on behalf of their townships. The Treasury currently holds more than $5 billion in unclaimed property, and the process to search and claim is free.
