PSATS Mourns the Loss of Elam Herr
It is with deep sadness that PSATS announces the passing of Elam Herr, former Deputy Executive Director and Legislative Director. Elam passed away last week following a courageous 20-month battle with brain cancer.
A dedicated public servant, Elam devoted more than 42 years to PSATS, earning the respect of legislators and administration officials through the decades. He also spent nearly 47 years with the East Hempfield Township Zoning Hearing Board in Lancaster County. His unwavering commitment to strengthening local government left an indelible mark on communities across Pennsylvania.
Elam is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Patti Herr; his children, JD (Alex) Herr and Caitlin (Craig) Lager; and his cherished grandchildren, Owen Herr and Scarlett Lager. His greatest joy was the love he shared with his family.
A celebration of Elam’s life will be held on Saturday, September 20th at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, located at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Visitation will take place from 10am to noon, followed by a memorial service at noon.
To honor Elam’s legacy, we encourage you to spend time with loved ones, lead with kindness, support those in need, and share your favorite stories—frequently and wholeheartedly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation in tribute to Elam’s admirable strength and resilience.
