PennDOT Awards $47 Million for Multimodal Transportation Grants
Yesterday, the state Department of Transportation announced its awarding $47 million in Multimodal Funds for 54 transportation projects in 34 counties. Townships across the state will receive 27 of the grants and several additional grants will pay for bridges or other road projects in townships. The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grant funding to improve transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transit access.
“Infrastructure is essential to Pennsylvania’s growth and to connecting people with opportunity,” said Governor Shapiro. “When we invest in safer roads, bridges, ports, and transit, we’re creating jobs, strengthening local economies, and making it easier for people to get where they need to go — whether that’s to work, school, or a small business on Main Street.”
Here are a few of the funded projects:
- Upper Makefield Township, Bucks County: $250,000 to support new sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, curb bump-outs at two intersections, decorative crosswalks, pedestrian signals, milling and overlay, and other improvements along Route 532.
- Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County: $800,000 to support roadway realignment and widening associated with I-380 and Route 940.
- Otto Township, McKean County: $1,055,341 to replace the Berger Hollow Road Bridge.
- Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County: $574,305 to replace the Ramsey Road Bridge.
- Shirley Township, Huntingdon County: $127,600 to pave six alleys in the village of Allenport.
