Liberty Bell License Plates Are Back

Copying the bicentennial license plates from 1976, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced yesterday that the Liberty Bell plate is back and renamed “Let Freedom Ring.” The new license plate is available for all Pennsylvanians to order ahead of the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. Nearly 11,700 new-plate orders have already been filled for people who signed up for updates last year.   Instructions for requesting a standard issue license plate in the new design are available by clicking here. Note that additional fees will apply if ordering after July 1, 2025. PennDOT partners, including dealers and online messengers, will use all existing standard issue license plate inventory before transitioning to the new plate design. The new plates are optional for drivers with current license plates.  Personalized plates can also be requested and fees will vary for this plate type. Military, special organization, special fund, and specialty plates without legislatively mandated designs will become available in the coming months. Click here for the press release.
