DEP Recognizes Two Townships for Excellence in Environmental Projects 

The state Department of Environmental Protection is honoring 19 projects completed around the state with the 2025 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence and townships received two of these awards. Applications were evaluated for their degree of environmental protection, innovation, partnership, economic impact, consideration of climate change, sustainability, and environmental justice, as well as outcomes achieved. 

East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County was recognized for the Amos Herr Wetland Restoration which converted six acres of unused land into an ecosystem of trails, meadows, and wetlands, which reducing flooding risks and reducing sediment and nitrogen. 

Warrington Township, Bucks County was recognized for the ecological restoration of native wetland habitat at Mountain at Lions Pride Park. The project converted a dilapidated pond with impounded sediments and invasive species to a native freshwater shrub wetland habitat accessible to the community. Click here to learn more about the awards and these projects.
