DEP Grants Available for Alternative-Fuel Vehicles, Retrofits
DEP is accepting applications for the 2026 Alternative Fuels Incentive Grants (AFIG) program. Townships are eligible to apply, and are considered priority applicants, for funding to transition to cleaner fuel transportation (including electric, compressed or liquefied natural gas, propane, hydrogen, biodiesel, and other advanced biofuels). The program has $5 million in grant funding available towards:
- Incremental costs related to retrofitting vehicles to operate on alternative fuels.
- Incremental costs to purchase new alternative-fuel vehicles.
- Costs to purchase and install fleet-refueling equipment for alternative-fuel vehicles.
- Cost to perform research, training, development, and demonstration of new applications or next-phase technology related to alternative-fuel vehicles.
There will be two application acceptance periods for the 2026 program. The first acceptance period ends on April 1, 2026. For more information, visit DEP’s website. Questions can be directed to Josh Dziubek, Energy Programs Office, at jdziubek@pa.gov or 717-705-0374.
