DEP Awards Funding to Plug More Than 300 Conventional Oil and Gas Wells
The state Department of Environmental Protection has awarded $7.2 million to plug 329 conventional gas and oil wells across 15 counties, with 67 slated to be plugged in Venango County, 62 in McKean, and 52 in Warren County. Plugging wells lowers methane emissions from un productive wells and prevents potentially dangerous gas leakages and backflow pollution of watersheds and groundwaters. The federal Inflation Reduction Act ( IRA) is funding the projects. To learn more, including where these wells will be plugged, click here.
