Townships Receiving Storm Damage Should Report to County EMC
This weekend, 64 of 67 Pennsylvania counties experienced damage due to storms, and some remain without power. Flooding, as well as downed trees and powerlines, made many local and state roads impassable.
Assessments are now being completed to determine the level of damage, as eligibility for federal and state programs are based on countywide damage. If your township-owned facilities were damaged, your township’s emergency management coordinator should compile and report to the county EMC. If damage does not meet federal thresholds, state programs may provide funding for repairs if damage reaches certain thresholds.
Residents with damage to buildings or vehicles should document the damage and reach out to their insurance companies. Private property damage can also be reported by residents to the township’s EMC or the county EMC. The Disaster Recovery Assistance Program (DRAP), for example, requires a municipal government and the U.S. Small Business Administration must make disaster declarations before residents can apply for funding.
