2024 Population Estimates Released for Pennsylvania’s Municipality’s

The U.S. Census Bureau released 2024 estimates of the total population by municipality using administrative records. The Pennsylvania State Data Center prepared a brief of Pennsylvania’s changes. 1,057 municipalities increased population between 2020 and July 1, 2024, 49 municipalities had no change and 1,466 municipalities lost population. Click here for an interactive version of the map above, which will allow you to click on your township to see the estimated percent change.  

The municipalities with the largest numeric increase in population were Pittsburgh, Allegheny County; West Chester Borough, Chester County; Bethlehem City, Northampton County; Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County; and Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County. Philadelphia and Erie led the list of municipalities with the greatest numeric decrease.  

The municipalities with the greatest percentage increase were Westfall Township, Pike County; Lancaster Township, Butler County; Wind Gap Borough, Northampton County; Slippery Rock Township, Butler County; and Jackson Township, Butler County. California Borough, Washington County and Cambridge Springs borough, Crawford County, led the list of municipalities with the greatest percentage decrease. Click here to read the brief.
