Webinar Title:

PA DEP Underground Mine Mapping and Mine Subsidence Insurance Program

(Part of PSATS' Learning at Lunch 2014 Webinar Series)

The PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has an extensive collection of underground coal mine maps and mining information covering 43 counties in Pennsylvania, dating back to the late 1700s.  Mine subsidence from these mines causes millions of dollars of damage each year.  DEP offers low cost Mine Subsidence Insurance to provide coverage for such damages, since standard homeowners policies typically exclude this coverage.

Register today for this interactive webinar, designed to inform participants of DEP's recent advances in the distribution of abandoned mining information and mine maps over the Internet. Participants will also learn how they can help residents decipher this information to make decisions on mine subsidence insurance.

  • Ed Motycki, Mine Subsidence Section Chief, PA DEP
  • Matt Cavanaugh, Mineral Resources Program Specialist, PA DEP
