Schuylkill County Groups Receive Community Service Awards from Township Associations

The Mahantongo Environmental Club and the Schuylkill Haven Area High School Biology Club from Schuylkill County will each receive a $500 cash prize and a framed certificate as winners in the 2015 Youth Awards Contest of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS). The groups will receive their awards Wednesday evening, October 21, during the annual convention of the Schuylkill County Association of Township Officials, to be held at the New Ringgold Fire Company beginning at 6:30 p.m.

PSATS Learning and Education Group Officer James Wheeler will present the awards.

PSATS established the Youth Awards Contest in 1993 to recognize outstanding community service contributions made by youth groups throughout the commonwealth.

The Mahantongo Environmental Club is being honored for raising funds to build a pavilion that will act as an outdoor classroom for the elementary school, a meeting place for the environmental club, and a site for community events and programs.

The Schuylkill Haven Area High School Biology Club is being recognized for participating in the semi-annual Schuylkill Keep It Pretty, or SKIP, highway cleanups.
