Theodore Kostige, supervisor, assistant secretary, and public works director of Paupack Township, Wayne County, has been elected to serve a one-year term as first vice president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors, effective April 20, 2004. He will be eligible for a second one-year term in 2005.

Kostige was elected to the post by delegates to the association’s 82nd Annual State Convention, held April 18-21 in Hershey.

By nature of this position, the first vice president is a member of the association’s Executive Board with full voting rights. The association’s five officers and seven Executive Committee members make up its Executive Board, which is responsible for managing the affairs of the state association. The board meets four times a year to take care of association business and plan new projects that will benefit member townships.

Prior to his election in 2002 as second vice president, Kostige served as secretary-treasurer, assistant secretary-treasurer, and as a member of the association’s Executive Committee and Publications-Public Relations, Finance, and Convention Planning committees. He also has served as a sergeant-at-arms at the association’s annual state convention.

Kostige has served as president, first vice president, and second vice president of the Wayne County Association of Township Officials.

Kostige is past president of the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District and chairman of the Lakeville and Wayne County community pantry programs.

Kostige, a farmer, is a past president of the Wayne County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the Wayne County Cooperative Extension Service, the Board of Trustees of Farview State Mental Hospital, and the Hemlock Hollow Community Association. He is a member of the Wayne County Solid Waste Advisory Board, the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Company, the Penn State Cooperative Extension, and the Wayne County Industrial Development Corporation.

Kostige also is a past chairman of the Wayne County Council of Governments, past vice president of the Wayne County Emergency Management Advisory Board, a past board member of the Rural Technical Assistance Program, and a past member of the Wayne County 4-H Advisory Council.

The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors represents Pennsylvania’s 1,456 townships of the second class and for the past 83 years has been committed to preserving and strengthening township government and securing greater visibility and involvement for townships in the state and federal political arenas. Townships of the second class represent more residents – 5.1 million Pennsylvanians – than any other type of political subdivision in the commonwealth.
