Spring Road Maintenance
Governor's Center for Local Government Services, PENNDOT, LTAP, FHWA, PSATS, PSAB, PLCM
As winter fades away and spring rains move in, drainage becomes priority #1 in your road maintenance program. Effective drainage will reduce road deterioration and extend the life of your road surfaces.
Though drainage is your main challenge in the spring, safety is a year-round challenge. By identifying common pitfalls for your road crew and the people traveling on your roads, you can develop strategies to avoid accidents. Instructors will review work zone safety strategies and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
To develop the most effective and efficient program for your municipality, you must keep up-to-date and familiar with new techniques, materials, and innovations. Through discussions with representatives of the Pennsylvania Association of Asphalt Material Applicators and our instructors, you will learn how to use these new ideas to improve your road maintenance program.
