Deadline for Boating Infrastructure Grants Is Approaching

Monday July 10th, 2017
Townships that have public boating facilities are eligible for grants from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to develop and maintain transient tie-ups. The deadline is August 15.

The grants are for facilities that accommodate 26-foot and longer recreational motorboats that moor for 10 days or less. Eligible projects include the construction, renovation, and maintenance of transient slips, day docks, floating docks, and fixed piers. The grants also cover navigational aids and dockside utilities, such as electric, water, and pumpout stations.

Townships must provide a 25 percent match, which may include in-kind donations.

Applicants must:

1) Ensure that the facilities are useable for at least 20 years.

2) Build the facilities on waters that are accessible to the public and deep enough to navigate.

3) Install navigational aids to allow safe passage between the tie-up facility and the open water.

4) Maintain the facilities, cooperate with audits, and follow all applicable laws and regulations.
