Contractors Must Comply With Public Works Employment Verification Act
Contractors and subcontractors performing work on public works projects for municipalities that are covered by the Prevailing Wage Act are now required to comply with the federal E-Verify program to ensure employees are authorized to work in the United States.
The state Department of General Services recently adopted guidelines for administering and enforcing the state Public Works Employment Verification Act of 2012. E-Verify is a free Internet-based program operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that confirms employment eligibility.

Beginning January 1, 2013, public works contractors are required to submit a Public Works Employment Verification Form to a municipality that is bidding a public works project that is covered by Prevailing Wage act as a precondition for the contract award.
