Harper to Chair House Local Government Committee
Rep. Kate Harper (R-Montgomery), a former Lower Gwynedd Township supervisor for more than a decade, is the newly named chairman of Pennsylvania's House Local Government Committee.
“I am a firm believer that government at all levels must work together to ensure the safety and prosperity of our citizens and our communities,” Harper said. “As a former township supervisor and long-time solicitor, I certainly understand the challenges facing our local government leaders...I look forward to working with these dedicated men and women in municipalities across the commonwealth to implement policies that will help address issues such as open space, urban sprawl, infrastructure maintenance and repair, transportation, and more.”
The Local Government Committee reviews bills that would amend the municipal codes by which local governments operate. Harper previously served as chairman of the House Children and Youth Committee and the House Ethics Committee.
She also has served as a member of the Transportation, Environmental Resources and Energy, Judiciary and Urban Affairs committees. She has represented the 61st Legislative District in Montgomery County since 2000.
