Pa. Congressman Bill Shuster to Chair House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee
Pennsylvania Congressman Bill Shuster will be the next chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, according to a recent report from the National Association of Towns and Townships.
This is important news for NATaT and local governments as they develop and promote priorities for the next surface transportation bill.
Rep. John Mica is dropping his bid for a term waiver to continue as chairman of the committee. Mica is instead endorsing Shuster for the spot, according to a letter sent Nov. 26 from Mica to House Speaker John Boehner and members of the Republican Steering Committee. In the letter, obtained by POLITICO, Mica says he accepts last week's decision by the GOP conference not to grant waivers and says Shuster has the "experience and ability to assume this important position."
