This class is for newly elected township supervisors, as well as incumbent officials looking for updates and changes in legislation and a refresher on their responsibilities. Township secretaries will also benefit from this course.
Note: This is the only municipal training course in the state geared solely to new township officials and staff. Be sure to take advantage of this unique training opportunity that focuses just on townships.
Purpose: To give newly elected township officials an overview of the duties, responsibilities, and functions of their office. This is a two-session course held on consecutive Saturdays. The first session will cover the supervisor’s duties and responsibilities under the Township Code and the Ethics and Sunshine Laws, legislative powers, liability, how to interact with appointed boards and commissions, public works, intergovernmental functions, and the services PSATS offers to township officials.
The second session will focus on resources provided by the Governor’s Center for Local Government Services, township finances and auditing, and land use planning.
All participants will receive a packet of materials, including copies of the Township Supervisor’s Manual, the Intergovernmental Cooperation Handbook, and the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code.
