PSATS E-Mail Discussion Groups
for Pennsylvania's Townships of the Second Class
Why should I join the E-Mail Discussion
group?
Millions of people from all walks of life,
business and industry groups, and even government agencies have
found that email discussions through the Internet are one of the
best ways to collaborate and discuss ideas across the globe. These
online discussions allow you to easily send an identical mail
message - a request for help or information, a job posting, or
an announcement, for example -- to all the members of a list simply
by sending one message to a single address called a listserver
address.
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) has created an email discussion group exclusively for township supervisors, secretaries, treasurers and managers in Pennsylvania as a way to communicate with an online community of common interests. In many ways, this discussion group may become the most important resource on the Internet for Pennsylvania's local officials -- a resource that allows officials to consult directly and instantly with their counterparts throughout the commonwealth.
Requirements/Restrictions
The PSATS discussion group was created
exclusively for township officials. All subscribers to the list
will be verified to ensure that discussions within the group are
devoted only to issues related in some way to township government,
including questions on such topics as the Township Code, roads
and bridges, sewage and water facilities, recycling, planning
and zoning, law enforcement, finances, ethics, and recreation.
Job postings, bid announcements, and equipment for sale advertisements
are also acceptable and encouraged.
We ask that no graphics or documents be sent
through the list, as these files tend to be quite large and will
slow down an otherwise expedient process of exchanging valuable
information through the Internet.
PSATS will also discourage and attempt to block
vulgar or hostile messages from reaching the list's membership.
How can I be sure all of the answers
and opinions expressed in the discussion are accurate?
While PSATS will administer and oversee
the membership and content of the list on a regular basis to help
promote accuracy, it is not responsible for the individual opinions
or ideas expressed by any member of the email discussion group.
When necessary, PSATS staff will attempt to correct any flagrant
factual errors by responding to the list as quickly as possible.
This discussion group in no way is meant to provide a source for
legal opinions. Townships are reminded to consult their solicitors
for legal advice.

PSATS Technology Discussion Group
PSATS also created a discussion group for
township officials devoted to covering computer and technology
issues to help minimize off-topic discussions within the original
group. This is an excellent way to share experiences and ask questions
regarding computers and the Internet.
On-line information and resources that may
be of value to townships are common features within the group.
Other topics that might appear include such things as web site
design services, computer tips, and computer virus information.
Both discussion groups provide users with a great way to keep
informed and as a means of helping others.
