PSATS' 88th Annual Educational Conference and Trade Show, held in Hershey in April, was brimming with energy and excitement.
More than 4,000 township officials, guests, and vendors were treated to a memorable three-and-a-half days that featured great speakers, more than 80 workshops, and the state's largest municipal trade show.
PSATS took the opportunity to sound the warning cry about some very real threats against local government, including House Bill 2431, which would eliminate townships, boroughs, and cities in favor of county-based government.
Members also heard from the six gubernatorial candidates and elected a new president, John Haiko of West Bradford Township in Chester County.

Township officials and guests had the chance to meet face-to-face with close to 300 vendors and state agency representatives who provide the goods, services, and information that help keep townships running smoothly.
Close to 80 workshops offered township officials and staff information on topics from active recreation parks to water issues -- and everything in between.
PSATS' 2010 Annual Conference featured a range of speakers, including (shown below) U.S. Sen. Bob Casey; Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Joe Scarnati; grassroots advocate Pat Haggerty; new PSATS President John Haiko and Immediate Past President Kenny Grimes; PSATS Executive Director Dave Sanko; and motivational humorist Bryan Townsend.
Hundreds of township officials and staff gathered at the Commonwealth Keystone Building in Harrisburg to meet with their state legislators and sample delicious food and drink courtesy of PA Preferred providers.
The recent conference covered a lot of ground, including many critical issues that could impact townships and their residents. There was still plenty of time, however, to enjoy the moment and connect with friends new and old.
