Bad weather was still months away when townships started seeking bids for their winter supply of road salt. Responses were few and quoted sky-high prices, leaving many to wonder where to turn. The state hopes to help by bidding a supplemental salt contract through its COSTARS program.
Many townships are finding themselves in new long-term relationships — with energy companies hoping to tap into the state’s natural gas reserves. Communication is the key to making sure these new neighbors become friends, not foes.
More than 300 municipal officials recently turned out for a statewide forum that posed an important question: “How will natural gas drilling affect their community?”
Government consolidation expert Wendell Cox tells how facts and figures continue to show that bigger government still isn’t better government.
