- In a time when some are calling for fewer local governments and regionalization, more than a few township and county officials can point to a host of innovative and effective projects to show just how often-and how well-the two have been working together without the need to change any government structure. In areas as diverse as comprehensive planning and economic development, the benefits of banding together are extending well beyond municipal borders.
A recent Lincoln Institute survey has cast some light on what township officials are thinking-and doing. Among other things, the survey found that many townships are joining forces with other municipalities to meet the challenges facing their growing communities. It also uncovered that traffic congestion and road issues are among their biggest concerns.
PSATS established its Legal Assistance Program in 1995 to support townships embroiled in major court battles. Since then, the Association has participated in nearly 100 cases that affect townships statewide and has seen plenty of successes along the way.
