Typically, township supervisors run
for office because they want to make a positive contribution to
their communities. What they might not bargain for are all the
administrative duties that go with running a township. Professional
managers can ease that burden by taking over the day-to-day administration
of a township, letting township supervisors concentrate on the
important business of governing.
This past summer, state lawmakers finally
rewrote the state's Right-to-Know Law. And like its predecessor,
the updated version has raised its fair share of questions as
township officials scramble to comply with the new requirements,
set to take effect next month. In this issue, we walk you through
some of the most significant changes and explain exactly what
you need to do to be ready.
Here in Pennsylvania, federal, state, and
local officials have been working closely together on a number
of initiatives aimed at ensuring that the commonwealth is much
safer and better prepared to deal with an emergency than it was
a year ago. In fact, Washington and Harrisburg are sending money,
training, and more information down the pipeline to townships,
which are being recognized as valuable partners in the war on
terrorism.
