Although a group of angry citizens marching into a township meeting may seem intimidating, township supervisors can learn a lot by sitting down, listening to residents' concerns, and working to reach the best solution for the community.
A survey of PSATS member townships shows that while 90 percent opted to enforce the Uniform Construction Code, many have faced a range of challenges. Still, only a few are reconsidering their decision to participate.
The state has dubbed 12 northern-tier counties as the Pennsylvania Wilds as part of a multi-million-dollar tourism effort. The real payoff could be in attracting businesses and residents to this once-prosperous area.
PSATS Solicitor Thomas L. Wenger takes a close look at Act 38 of 2005, better known as ACRE. A hard-fought legislative battle resulted in a law that appears to balance the interests of farmers, nonfarmers, and local government.
