Township supervisors are, by definition, leaders. But there's
a lot more to leadership than a title. True leaders have to be
able to inspire trust and foster understanding, to make tough
decisions and build consensus among disparate factions. They are
coaches and decision-makers, diplomats and conciliators. There
is a recipe for effective leadership, and having the right ingredients
will help township officials keep residents happy while doing
what's best for their communities.
Let's face it, being a township supervisor is a lot like being
a circus performer. There you are, in the spotlight, constantly
juggling things, from public meetings and complaints from residents
to your family obligations. It's enough to stress anybody out.

No. 1 health problem, get the better of you? Well, experts say
that the answer to reducing and managing it may be easier than
you think - if you're willing to make some changes.
The buzzword in the construction industry these days is "green
buildings," those environmentally conscious structures that
are being touted as the next best thing. But are green buildings
all they're cracked up to be? Experts here in Penn-sylvania say
so. And while building green may cost a little more up-front than
conventional construction, they say that townships will find that
the long-term cost savings will make up for that initial investment.
The PSATS Executive Board held its annual summer meeting, where
members discussed the Association's new Emergency Preparedness
Committee, among other things.
