This month, we dive into the issue of water management by taking a look at what the state and townships are doing to ensure that Pennsylvanians have a safe and abundant supply. The goal: to keep water resources clean and plentiful without sinking into debt.
Starting July 1, home improvement contractors were required to be registered with the state. However, some township officials wonder whether the anti-fraud mandate will do what it is intended to do.

A recently introduced federal bill, similar to the old General Revenue Sharing program, would provide $20 billion a year for local governments. For the legislation to pass Congress, however, townships must communicate their support quickly and clearly. The upcoming National Association of Towns and Townships’ Legislative Conference offers the perfect opportunity.
Pennsylvania and its partners have protected more than 400,000 acres of farmland. Still, the commonwealth isn’t resting on its laurels. A lot of preservation has yet to be done, and officials are eyeing creative ways to make that happen.
